Want to Work On Your Home Computer While Traveling?

Tip 1 – You are away from home and you want to do some tasks on your home computer: You can do it by downloading a free version of LogMeIn. The program works with PC’s and Mac’s. Go to www.logmein.com for the free download. Select “Products,” then select Logmein free.
Tip 2 – Mac users think they are secure from malware attacks – Not true! According to Tony Bradley, a writer for PCWorld, “the real reason that Macs aren’t plagued by more malware is that the platform represents such negligible market share that it’s not worth the effort for malware developers.” Mac users should be aware that they are exposed to a very dangerous scam called MacDefender or MacProtector, and MacSecurity. Google for MACDEFENDER to get more information and how to remove the malware.
Tip 2 – Should you back up your webmail?: OK, you use webmail and all your mail in on the provider’s server. It’s safe there because they backup my stuff. Don’t you believe it. The June 2011 issue of PCWORLD.COM stated that “In late February, 150,000 Gmail users were left in the dark when a glitch deleted all of their email messages and disabled their accounts. Luckily, Google was able to restore the deleted email within a week.” There is a way to backup webmail:

• Gmail users should go to find.pcworld.com/71749 to download a backup program.
• Hotmail users go to find.pcworld.com/71750, and

Tip 3 – Try this if you are using Windows 7 or Vista: Here is a quick way to capture all or part of an area of a window.

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type snip .
3. Click Snipping Tool .
4. Your screen will darken slightly.
5. Move your curser over the area you want to copy while holding down the mouse button.
6. Release the mouse button and you will see the capture on your screen.
7. You can now decide how you want to use the snipped image.

Tip 4 – Which free malware utilities are the best protecting your PC?: If you keep a lot of personal information on your computer, I recommend that you use one of the paid utilities mentioned in the last Computer Tips. Your information is just too valuable to risk the attack of malware. However, if you don’t to go to the expense of using excellent anti-malware systems such as Norton/Symantec, use these free utilities. They are listed alphabetic.
